As you can see below we've collected references to a mind boggling array of captioning file formats (for both closed captioning and subtitling) over the years.  Some fizzled out with the captioning software that used them.  Some are proprietary to a particular piece of software.  A few are overkill because they are generated by data base programming kits intended for more complex tasks like accounting and inventory.  But most are simple, but lengthy, lists of the time when each caption is to appear, when each caption is to disappear, and the corresponding file with the caption's image.

AutoCaption™ makes the caption images and this index of caption images in the popular STL format.  The STL format was developed by Spruce Technologies® and is used by Apple's® DVD Studio Pro™ DVD authoring software.  It typically doesn't take much more than a word processor and a few minutes to adapt that STL format to most other formats.

If an AutoCaption user supplies a clear published specification for a particular captioning file format and gives Image Logic® a working example, we're able to make AutoCaption generate that file format --usually quickly and at no additional charge.
